I went to Kropps and Bobbers for a mani-pedi. This is an intimate spa that can accommodate one manicure and one pedicure at a time. Pleasant, low-key vibe, lovely aesthetician, very happy with my nails.
the manicurist was very friendly and talked all about her family. Very sweet, constantly asking if the mani/pedi was comfortable. Used lots of great scented oils. If i were blind, i may have thought she was painting the sistene chapel onto my nails- she was THAT DETAIL ORIENTED. she made painstaking efforts to ensure there was not a thing wrong with my nails, perfectly buffed, filed and painted. could not find ONE flaw.

He gave me one of the best shampoo/scalp massages I've ever had, and had my hair looking shinier and fuller than it's looked in a long time by the time I walked out. Mark gave me a great haircut! I got a long bob, which was just what I asked for! He is friendly and dedicated to his craft - my hair is really thick and I have a lot of it, but he didn't complain about having to blow-dry it (most hair dressers complain). I liked that he was approachable but not pushy.
This place was pretty busy on a Wednesday! I got here early and browsed the magazines for ideas and watched as ladies with great haircuts went out the door. I got booked with Jesse and he's super awesome. I showed him some ideas he had in mind and I left looking pretty damn close to the hairstyle picture I wanted. Not only was Jesse pretty fast and efficient, he's a great conversationalist and made me feel @ ease. I totally recommend coming here to get the style you want, and ask for Jesse... he's fantastic!

Jesse was very precise and did a great job with my hair. He ever cut my hair while I got my manicure so I wouldn't need to stay in the salon so long!
Jesse did a very nice job with my hair cut! He is very personable and took the time to make sure he understood what I wanted which was very important to me. A+ in terms of my cut and Styling. However, I was not pleased with the hair washing with Silvia. It wasn't thorough and my scalp was not left feeling clean at all. Actually I sacraficed the styling and washed my hair again that evening just to thoroughly clean my scalp. If it wasn't for this I would have given a 5 star rating. I would definitely go back to see Jesse, however I will be sure to clean my hair right before going so that I don't have to wash out the style the very same day.
Manicurist was excellent. Very detailed, my fingers and toes looked excellent for almost two weeks after.

Friday night. This was my first time at the salon and Damon was my stylist. He
talked me through how I like to normally wear my hair and what I wanted to get
done. He did a great cutting job and I LOVED the final styling job he did. It
took about and an hour and 20 minutes all together, but it was worth it. I'm
definitely going back to Damon!

When searching for a place to finally cut my hair short I kept reading about Jesse at Kropps & Bobbers..There certainly was a lot of praise and although I figured the cut would be good I was also prepared for the let down that comes with too much hype. I LOVE MY HAIR! IT IS AMAZING AND WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY. Jesse took the time to really here me out and throughout the cut kept communicating with me about what he was thinking and where he was headed. Monica Y.- ok so I talked about extensions on my last review. This is an update for a review on color from Joani. Jet black to light ash blonde! My extensions grew out and my hair was long enough and I was getting bored of the same old black hair god has given me since birth. I wanted to do something different to my hair and a cut just wasnt going to cut it. So I decided to go blonde. A very bold and tricky project, but nothing Joani couldn't handle. A challange! But before we get into it, I decided to be cheap and stupid and bleach my hair myself. Of course the worst happened and I ended up with a neon yellow/orange highlighter of hair. To say the least I was mortified and people were giving me the weirded out look when I was out in public. I felt like such an outcast untouchable, it was very sad. I had to wear a hat to the salon to show her, but I had to suck it up for her to help fix my mess. after hours in her chair, she color corrected my hair and without having my hair fall out. She is a god send and she didn't make me feel bad at all. She told me the truth and the possible and likely outcome and was very sympathetic. She managed to neutralized my color and tone it down to a gorgeous ash blonde color (see photos) and I get compliments on it all the time. I am asian and sometimes blonde can look a little wonky on us, but she got the perfect color that complimented my skin tone. And the best part was, I didn't owe her my savings account. It was at such a great price you can't help but come back for more like a drug. I am extremely happy with her and the outcome. 5 stars for price, product, and service. yay!
Lois E- had the pleasure of getting my long hair cut and colored by Jesse Montalto. I was introduced to him by a friend of mine, (who had her hair cut by Jesse). She swore I would be very happy with the results and I was! Having long hair, I'm always apprehensive when it comes to getting my haircut. Everyone wants to cut too much off.....but not Jesse, he was very sweet, extremely attentive, listened to exactly what I wanted and gave me a fantastic haircut! He also managed to even out my color, (I had been coloring it myself forever....). I didn't wash it for a few days, (as I wanted to preserve the perfect blow-out), and I continued to receive compliments. Even the day I should have washed it, (it was dirty!), another hairstylist told me that I had great hair! It's all thanks to Jesse.....! I even recommended him to my best friend, and she got her hair cut and colored the next day! She was also very very happy!

I decided to cut my hair short, into a victoria beckham-like style from my long hair that i've been growing out for years. it's a pretty big thing to do this, so I did endless searches to find the right hairdresser. I thought i found the one the other day, so i went and put my trust into the hands of a man who absolutely refused to do what i asked. i walked out literally wanting to cry. So needing to get this fixed, i started my search again. If only i had found Jesse at Kropps and Bobbers sooner! Not only was he the nicest guy, but he gave me his utmost full attention for almost two hours. Though fine and relatively straight, my hair is unusually difficult to cut and style, not to mention I myself am extremely difficult. I'm in awe with how patient and understanding he was with both me and my hair! Not only that but when my picky self felt like i wanted it a little shorter when I got home, Jesse told me I could come back and he would fix it. He spent another hour with me later that day, and i honestly couldn't be happier. He is seriously the most wonderful hair stylist, he did for me everything I wanted and more. Not only is Kropps and Bobbers very affordable, but Jesse is the absolute best! I have found my guy.

Tracy L- After much frustration with managing long hair, I decided to chop off my locks to a pixie/crop cut - the shortest I've ever cut my hair. Unable to decide between K&B and another salon that specialized in cutting short hair, a flip of a coin designated K&B as the winner. One of the best decisions ever. I'm Chinese and have frequented Chinese hair salons all my life and received mediocre to disastrous results. I made my appointment with Jesse and forewarned him that Chinese hair is incredibly hard (therefore, any mistakes will show) and he reassured me of his extensive experience with Asian hair, especially with his apprenticeship with Japanese hair stylist, John Frieda, under his belt. In the end, I chopped off my hair and have been receiving compliments on it. Jesse cut my desired hairstyle according to my face shape and hair texture, and compliments have mirrored this fact, respectively. Rachel was there and as a fellow, crop-haired girl, was able to impart some styling and maintenance tips for my newly cut hair. I attended K&B with two of my best friends (both are Chinese as well) and on a whim, one received a much-needed haircut with her long, thick hair (cut by Jesse) and another received bangs (cut by Rachel). All three of us left K&B happier and more satisfied than we ever did in any other hair salon. Jesse and Rachel gave us their undivided time and attention, and we all looked wonderful because of them! On behalf of my two friends and myself, we can all say that we'll be repeat customers in the future.
Karin S.- After getting disappointing haircuts at other pricey and well-known salons in New York, I was beginning to think my hair situation was hopeless. I'm happy to report that my long search for a decent hair salon in New York has come to an end. Joni at Kropps did an excellent job with my hair, giving it the exact color I was looking for that other stylists have failed to give me over my past several haircuts. The products she uses seem gentle, and I'm always happy with the results. I have recommended the place to other friends and they are always super satisfied as well. I am never worried to try something new here as everything is explained in detail and she makes an effort to use the least harmful process for what you want to achieve. Everyone is friendly, and the environment is relaxed, which I look for in a salon. I hate those huge hectic places. I'll be going back very soon!
Jane D.- Kropps is the best! I've been going to see Joni at Kropps and Bobbers for over a year and a half now. I've gone from long dark brown hair with red to copper with pink and yellow, to blond, then platinum with purple and silver with a bob. She's done it all! Joni takes super good care of your hair, and is as gentle on it as possible. They even do this type of extension, called "pinch braids" that doesn't hurt your hair a bit. You can add color or length with out to much hassle. They make all my fancy hair dreams come true!
Stacie N.- Great salon! I liked the fact that I was with 1 person (in my case, Joni) from start to finish, so I didn't feel like I was on the hair assembly-line like I often do at other salons. The space is open, bright and cheerful, and Joni as well as the other employees I encountered were friendly and welcoming. I got a good cut, and very nice color, and I believe that both will grow out gracefully over the coming months. Prices are MORE than fair for NYC, and there's a great special this month for new clients. All in all, quite happy!

I'd passed this place a gazillion times and noticed that they advertised dreadlock maintenance. Because the shop doesn't look particularly rasta-centric, I never took the proclamation seriously. I figured K&B was a salon dabbling in some novice twisting. Well, my skepticism hit me in the wallet... I rolled the dice on another local place that claims to be dread pros and was left wanting; my hair was a mess for what I paid for at the other place. Enter Joni. She repaired my previous dread hack job in record time, and had my hair looking neat and orderly again. K&B can create that awesome spiked afro look that looks so cool in recent ads (think Maxwell circa 1998). K&B can also help you maintain your dreads *without* not washing them for many months - that alone is worth a visit! So, brothers and sisters. It may not seem like the place....but for sure K&B can give you an awesome natural do. Talk to Joni for a consultation and some work. You won't be disappointed.

It does not damage the hair, it lasts a long time and Joni matches the color and texture to perfection. Anyone who comments on my hair and how good it looks, is shocked to learn that I have extensions...........that is how natural it looks. I found Joni a year ago, and she has saved my hair from looking thin and sparse! The prices are also very reasonable. I highly recommend Kropps and Bobbers for the best extensions around.

Wesley is fantastic! I have been to many, many stylists and he is the first one who knows exactly how to tame my curly, rebellious hair. I always get compliments on my haircut and Wesley is the reason. I never thought I could have a cute bob with my curls but he worked his magic. moving to NYC, I've had the same sytlist my entire life and was very hessitant
about letting anyone else touch my locks--and went through several REALLY bad
stylists before I found Kropps.
Kropps is great. I've had my hair
done by several people there--both cuts and color. Nobody has ever
led me astray. In fact, on a whim the other day I went in and gave my
general vision--and 12 inches later, I emerged with the best bob I never knew I
always wanted.
They have a knack for translating ideas into sleek cuts
and great color.
From a girl that's super-picky about who touches her
hair--this place comes highly reccomended. Joni is, in
a word, amazing. She's been doing my extensions for the past two years and my
hair is healthy, healthy, healthy. And beautiful! She's smart, personable and
really cares about her clients. The atmosphere at Kropps is really relaxing and
everyone is happy and chatty. Oh, and the manicures and pedicures are top
notch. Better than any I have ever gotten at any ridiculously expensive salon
or spa.
Mark is the man! My hair is really easy for sylists to deal with -- so much so, that they tend to under work it and I end up with something really blah boring and way shorter than I asked. Not the case with Mark -- I was a walk-in. He had no previous experience with my hair. I breifly explained what I wanted and NOTHING got lost in translation. He explained what would and wouldn't work for me, REALLY took his time, and did an AMAZING job. To top it off the conversation was great , mark can shampoo hair like nobody's business, and the vibe was really mellow and relaxing. loved it. i will definitley be back.
Not only is the haircut that I just got from Kropps and Bobbers AMAZING (thank you, Lauren!), the art in their salon is sassy and fun! Apparently, they rotate the artwork every couple of months to feature new artists. They just put the finishing touches- literally, I watched Jean Ockuly, the artist, nail up the final picture- on their new CARNIVAL exhibit. The pictures feature Carnival-think Mardi Gras-photos from Brazil, Trinidad and Brooklyn. The images themselves are amazing on their own, but the most eye-catching part of each piece is the plush, glittery, feather covered, be- dazzled and/or jeweled picture frame that extend each vibrant photo. The art exhibit officially opens tomorrow (2/4/09) @ 8. $5 cover, with door prizes, dancing, and music. But if you can't make it to the opening, do yourself a favor: trim your scarf-tangled hair, reintroduce that sun-kissed luster to your color, and cut out the winter doldrums by visiting the salon before the exhibit ends mid-March!
A+ for brazilian waxes here - Bisa is fabulous and waxes are (almost) pain- free! Seriously though, never have I actually returned to the same wax person in my life before I came here, and now I won't let anyone else touch me!
Everytime I get my hair done here I am more than satisfied. They squeezed me in on New Years eve, where Rachel Miller changed me from a blonde to a stunning redhead with a rockin' hair cut. I was also able to get a top shelf manicure and eyebrow wax, and make it to the New Year's eve bash feeling like a knock out. This salon is my favorite in NYC, and I will be coming here for as long as I have hair.

Kropps and Bobbers is a great full service salon. Joni does my extensions using the pinch braiding method, which is the best. It does not damage the hair, it lasts a long time and Joni matches the color and texture to perfection. Anyone who comments on my hair and how good it looks, is shocked to learn that I have extensions...........that is how natural it looks. I found Joni a year ago, and she has saved my hair from looking thin and sparse! The prices are also very reasonable. I highly recommend Kropps and Bobbers for the best extensions around.
I chose this salon based on other yelper comments, and I'm happy to report that K&B did not disappoint. I was referred to Olga, who really did a fantastic job on my hair. Her English is a little bit limited; however, I had no issues communicating what I wanted. I asked for a sort of complicated, asymmetrical cut, as well as sort of complicated color, and she nailed both. She's just moved back to the NYC area and trying to build back her clientele, so maybe give her a try? She does work slowly, which I really appreciated, but if you're in a rush, just make sure you tell her up front :). Oh, also, she gives a fantastic head massage when washing your hair, because she also is one of the massage therapists at the salon. I loved the vibe of this salon. Easy-going, not at all pretentious. Joni, the owner, is lovely, and she's created a really comfortable, yet professional environment.
I went recently to Kropps & Bobbers and had Jesse's magic hands on my head. They are indeed magic. He pays attention to detail and thinks about each cut. He listens to exactly what you want and delivers above and beyond. I won't anyone else touch my hair! Jesse is the best!!! I came here for the Jesse here and, man alive, was I impressed. Jesse fit both my sister and myself into his schedule immediately, and was super friendly and professional. Both my sister and I are absolutely in love with our haircuts, and we are extremely picky women! My sister has long luxurious locks that he managed to only improve upon, styling and cutting it while maintaining her natural beauty. Jesse is meticulous and talented, you will not sit down with him and get a quick chop, he knows what he is doing and takes care that you are getting the best haircut for your face. My hair is so amazing, I get compliments on it everyday. He somehow managed to leave my hair looking longer (I am trying to grow it out, but don't want it to look like its style-less in the meantime) while cutting some shape into it. I live in Pittsburgh and will come all the way to NYC to get a haircut from Jesse, it is WELL worth it. The salon itself is also welcoming and relaxed. My sister and I spent almost four hours there while we both got our haircuts, and I never felt rushed out or like I was bothering anyone. Jesse gives amazing cuts and blow drys without fail. I've been following Jesse since about 2005 wherever he went (except Japan - too far but I truly missed him when he went away, lol) and now that he's at Kropps and Bobbers, I'm sure to visit. Early on, I knew that Jesse would be the one to style my hair for my wedding and sure enough he did. Last year, he came over to my apartment, spent an hour and half to style my hair the way I wanted it and it came out amazing for the big day. I'm truly dedicated to his work and his perfectionist attitude.
Monica Y.kropps and bobbers is the ONLY place i know in the entire manhattan area that does the pinch braid extentions. __every where else does the "great lengths" system which i think is a rip off. they all quoted me $1000 for a whole head of extensions which is ridiculous, considering it only lasts for up to 2 months. plus the other extensions use either glue, or crappy weaves that damage your hair and scalp, and is difficult to get out once you dont want them. __the braiding system works the best since its braided 1/4" to your scalp and its healthier for your hair and SO much more affordable. if you want to add length to your hair, go to joani. im suprised no one really knew about the pinch braid system. she learned this method from the world renowned hair police. __their salon is clean, big and professional, and a block away from the subway. i recommend it and im sure ill be a long term client now that ive found someone who does pinch braid extentions.

I haven't had a haircut in over 2 years! My hair was getting super long and knotty. So about a week ago, I had my sister trim my hair for me, and I was not happy with the results. I have been going to Kropps and Bobbers for nearly 3 years.. I actually live in Connecticut but make the drive every couple of months down to do my color and extensions. They work miracles with my hair transforming me from having a dark blonde chin length bob to having a full voluminous mane of a raven colored hair. The salon itself is awesome. The staff have excellent skills and truly listen to and hone in on the needs and wants of their clients. They all seem to be truly blessed with the ability to interpret their clients demands... true artists in their work. _On a practical note the salon is located close to the FDR driveway right off Houston so it is super easy to locate. Wesley rescued me and turned my 'do into something presentable. __He even managed to turn my natural dark brunette hair into the perfect shade of blonde for my skin tone. Mark is the man! __My hair is really easy for sylists to deal with -- so much so, that they tend to under work it and I end up with something really blah boring and way shorter than I asked.__Not the case with Mark -- I was a walk-in. He had no previous experience with my hair. I breifly explained what I wanted and NOTHING got lost in translation. Erik is cool, can cut men's hair pretty well and basically listened to everything i wanted and did just that, done & done. no hassle, easy to make an appointment too. i used to live in LA & thought $40 was expensive for a men's haircut at a decent salon so it was hard for me to justify paying $70 but after looking around apparently that's "inexpensive" for a good haircut in Manhattan and i'm not about to go to Supercuts, so i guess you just gotta lay down the cash and deal with it, oh well everything is over priced in New York so what do you expect.

One day I just wanted to cut my hair, I had a pretty bad haircut before wherein it got chopped. So I let it grow out and finally was ready for a nice trim. My hair frezzy and thick during the winter so I asked Lauren to thin it out for me. After a nice consult, which made me feel that she really knows what I have in mind, she cut my hair dry. Kropps & Bobbers has the most amazing masseuse..Jean...with hands of gold...I'm in physical therapy and seeing a chiropractor, have had acupuncture and massages elsewhere...for two herniated discs in my neck..have been with spasm...well no one has been able to break up this spasm..like Jean...at $80. for an hour's worth of hands on healing...and note: she took longer than an hour..she said that she stops when she knows she's done everything she can do...she knew exactly what I needed...left feeling light..pain free..walking on air...health is wealth and my health is worth it...I will continue to see Jean for as long as I have too...I'm hooked...

I've gotten so many compliments on the haircut I got last week that I went back today to get the highlights that Lauren suggested. The weather has been so nice recently, I decided that I just couldn't wait to get that sun-kissed look naturally. I should tell you, that I haven't dyed my hair in years because of a few mishaps. But Lauren steered me in the right direction with my cut, so I trusted her with the color. She did an AMAZING job (again)! She added an extra glow to my hair, but not in a "oh, you just got highlights" sort of way. It is more of a subtle "something's different, but I can't quite put my finger on it" sort of way; which was EXACTLY what I wanted! Do yourself a favor: CALL KROPPS AND BOBBERS AND ASK FOR LAUREN! She'll add a little bit of sunshine to your winter! If you go before March 15th, you'll also get to see the colorful Carnival photos. Another client in the salon today described them best: "They are overflowing with imagination"!

Lauren is a thorough and thoughtful hairdresser! She really takes her time, is meticulous and is a good listener. My hair is short, and she does a lovely job of keeping it feminine and light, and I never need to use product, which is a bonus for me. I get so many positive comments on her haircut. I had the ONLY supreme deep tissue massage from Jean, that can change your outlook if not your life.. The facials are as good as the massage, I prefer Olga and Joni can color hair like no other. Wesley cut my hair - he was definitely the best stylist I've encountered since moving to NY. I have punky hair and most stylists either try to give me that mullet that's going around or give me their awkward version of what they think is rocker hair. He's friendly and does a really great job. He offered me something to drink, he looked at the pictures I brought in and was really great at making me look exactly how I wanted.
A great experience. This salon on the trendy Loisada (LES) does great hair. I came in with a butchered haircut from a trendy salon in Williamsburg and came out of K & B with a polished/fixed looked ~> a super cool style. I normally don't like to spend alot of $$ on a hair-cut but this was well worth it. My stylist was patient and sat with me discussing style possibilities for a good 15min before he even touched my hair which I loved . . offered me a drink and then went on to do exactly what i had asked for. All I can say is mad props to Kropps & Bobbers - I will definitely go there again.

He has a great demeanor and was in no rush to get through my cut - he took his time, did a great job, and made it an overall stress-free experience. The lovely folks at x could not accomodate a pre-wedding updo, and it was going to be hurricane weather that night, and I didn't want to bother with it myself. I remembered this funky looking shop when I had gone to Eat-Pisode before and decided to give them a call. They could take me at the time I wanted, the price was right, and it was only an updo, right?
A girl came up to my boyfriend at the wedding and said, "Is that your girlfriend?" "Yes..." "Well, we've all decided - she is by far the best dressed and most put-together girl here."
It was that good an updo. Wesley, Wesley, Wesley. You asked what I wanted, I told you, and you executed in primo "As you wish" fashion. I looked and felt amazing.

If you are Asian with A LOT of hair, ASK FOR Wesley. My hair is long, thick, and not completely stick straight; and guess what? Every stylist (from Bumble and Bumble, Devachon, to $7 Chinatown salons) has tried to razor cutting my hair in the hopes of thinning out my crazy, fertile hair. But Wes taught me that this technique has the opposite effect on my hair because it creates frizzy (not blunt) edges that make my hair look damaged with dry ends and tons of fly ways! He used some other scissors and cut my hair differently, and I don't even have to spend hours in the morning blowing it out

She's taken me from long, copper red and curly to super short and shiny black and everything in between. She really excels at color and, while her styling always makes me feel like a queen, somehow she cuts my hair so that I can easily style it myself. I also go to K&B for my facials, mani/pedi and waxing because Visa and Olga are so precise and gifted. Love the products, love the ambiance, love the events.

I been having manicures, pedicures and wax performed by Visa for almost 3 years ( I followed her every place she have worked) and I will not change her for nothing in the whole world. She is just amazing doing her job and have a great personality. I will recommend her to everyone who wants to have the best manicure, pedicure or/and wax experience.
With any move to a new city, one of the hardest things to find is a quality place to get your hair cut. I've been here just over a year and must say that Kropps and Bobbers is the place for me.
It's got a mellow vibe and is comfortable. It's a pro set-up, and the stylists know their craft. They get to know their clients and their preferences and, when you get right down to it, make them look good. I go to Mark, and he's wonderful.
I like keeping my straight hair short, and when I last went for a cut Mark gave me a flexible style I could play with depending on my mood. Anyway, long story short while I'm out and about running errands, not one but two complete strangers compliment my cut.

The salon has a great vibe. The people are really friendly and not at all pretentious, as some Manhattan stylists can be. The set up of the place is comfy in a minimalistic, Zen, sort of way. Not a lot of flash - just great hair.
As you can probably determine from the name this place is sort of kitschy. But hey, I like kitsch, so that helps make this hair stylists joint more palatable. Hair stylists. I miss the innocent days of my youth when I went to just a barber or to get my hair cut, but its all about style these days, and this place is fully up to date with all the hipster mores
